Nigeria has sustained its compliance with the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) production quota for the third consecutive month, recording a combined crude oil and condensate output of 1.67 million barrels per day (mbpd) in July 2026.
Latest production data released by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) on Wednesday showed that the country produced an average of 1.505mbpd of crude oil and 0.17mbpd of condensate during the month under review.
The figure placed Nigeria above its 1.5mbpd OPEC crude oil production quota, continuing the improvement recorded in the preceding two months.
However, despite maintaining production above the OPEC benchmark, the latest figures showed a four per cent month-on-month decline in overall production.
According to the NUPRC data, Nigeria’s combined daily production peaked at 1.78mbpd in July, while the lowest output recorded during the period was 1.57mbpd.
The regulatory commission attributed the decline in production largely to operational challenges at the Erha and Akpo fields, which affected output during the month.
The disruptions, it said, constrained production volumes and contributed significantly to the reduction in national crude oil production.
The NUPRC, however, said production activities across most other producing assets remained relatively stable during the period.
It added that operators continued to implement measures to sustain production efficiency and minimise the impact of operational constraints on national output.
The latest performance comes amid ongoing efforts by the Federal Government and industry regulators to raise Nigeria’s crude oil production, attract fresh investments and improve the operational efficiency of the upstream petroleum sector.
While the July figures indicate that Nigeria has continued to meet its OPEC commitment, the month-on-month decline highlights the vulnerability of production levels to operational disruptions at key oil fields.
The sustained production above the quota nevertheless represents a positive development for the country, particularly as higher crude output remains critical to strengthening government revenues, improving foreign exchange inflows and supporting investment in the oil and gas sector.
